On Being Second

Your dad and I have always kind of hoped to have 2 children someday - one of each, a girl and a boy.  We hadn't given much thought to the timing or the odds because, honestly, we are pretty aware of the lack of control we exert on these kinds of things in life, and we consider ourselves QUITE BLESSED to have whatever comes our way.

Your sister, Isobel, came to us as our 5th pregnancy, at a time when we were contemplating despair, in the pregnancy department.  Being pregnant with her, I was very self-involved and constantly attuned to all the changes happening and trying to do my best not to "screw anything up." Well, everything went great and we became parents of a little girl baby.  This was a lot to figure out and, over time, we did.  We moved from Denver, Colorado back to Nashville, Tennessee (where we live now and lived before), quit jobs and got new jobs, bought a house, built a back patio cover...An action packed year and a half, for sure.

We were thinking about when we'd like to try for another child, and this issue kept coming up in our conversations more and more, after Isobel's 1st birthday.  She was finally sleeping through the night and all 3 of us were starting to feel more balanced, settled and open to dreaming about what might be our next adventure.

Enter YOU.

On November 17, 2014, we found out (very early along of course) that you were in there - that spark of life did its thing and you became real - a real boy! :)

We got an 8 week ultrasound to confirm that your little heart was beating and that you were growing at a healthy rate, and all looked good.  We used your sister to spill the beans at Thanksgiving, which was a big hit (your MeeMaw let out the funniest shriek/squeal you can imagine and everyone turned and looked at her).
